Philip Carey played Asa for over 30 years. He's 82 and alive. He was battling lung cancer and is doing well now, but chose to retire after entertaining us all these years.

His name is Phil Carey and no he didn't die in real life that I know of. The last I heard was he was quitting the show because his part has been basically non-existant lately. Also, he has been having some health issues, so I think he wanted to retire.

No, he didn't die. He had cancer in real life and that is why he was gone for so long. He beat the cancer and came back, but negotiations didn't work and they let him go. The actor who plays him is Phil Carey and I'm gonna miss that old fart!

No, Phil carey is still alive although he did battle lung cancer last year, he has had a long career and was in a few John Wayne movies.

No, Phil Carey did not pass away. However, he was treated for cancer last year, and has been wanting to retire for several years. In spite of what peopel think, OLTL did try to keep him at least recurring status, but he refused. They didn't put him out - he left.

This is a soap opera, and he has died 9 times already. Bo was about to arrest him,so maybe he comes back to life, again, with a new actor.

have you ever seen a soap opera funeral start and end so fast.??.. wow.. usually it is so drawn out it last for a week or longer and bam.. this one was over in one day!
Almost like the babies/kids on soaps... one month they are born and the next month they are walking!! LOL

he wasn't on 30 years. just about it though, he came on in 1979.
