What do yo think of this saying:

"Money doesn't buy you happiness, it only buys you choices."

Do you feel that if you had a great windfall tomorrow that it will only bring on more choices on what to do with your life, but it is only those choices that will make you happy in life, not the money?

Actually, this is a great quote that applies:

"But money is only a tool. It will take you wherever you wish, but it will not replace you as the driver. It will give you the means for the satisfaction of your desires, but it will not provide you with desires. ....

"Money will not purchase happiness for the man who has no concept of what he wants: money will not give him a code of values, if he's evaded the knowledge of what to value, and it will not provide him with a purpose, if he's evaded the choice of what to seek. Money will not buy intelligence for the fool, or admiration for the coward, or respect for the incompetent."

I had lived most of my life just slightly above the poverty level then received an inheritence and had no more financial problems. It was pretty neat for the first couple of weeks, going into a store and buying whatever you wanted and so on. I thought it would substancially change my life. It did'nt. The only thing money does is that it makes life less stressful. Money does not buy happiness Family and friends brings you happiness.

It is said that sudden wealth will make you go insane. But if I had a fortune tomorrow then first i would pay off old debt and then worry about the rest. The saying is true think about it when you have the money you have to make the choices of what to spend it on but when you don't have the money you have to think do I really need this item or can I wait for it to go on sale LOL

But those choices are happiness. The ability to make choices is happiness in itself because you do not have pain when you are looking down from the top of a situation instead of looking from the bottom up. The power to choose is the power to control your own life, and having control of your life is happiness.

Money doesn't buy happiness in fact it can buy misery. Realizing ones true self and constitutional position gives one true happiness.-
We are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this mortal body dies.
This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, and the rest are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships with our Maker named above. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga) which gives one real peace, happiness and reality. They give aspiring for material wealth and accept what is given to them by providence. They become detached from materialism and at the end of life they can easily return to the eternal Kingdom where there is no more repeated birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy. Totally blissful process.

yes, because that open more choices because you have to think about what to do next and you have so many options and now you would have to e.g. work for yourself or your family to survive. That is what life is about.
