Just from my observations of people who use these substances, I would venture to say that alcohol is by far the most destructive. I've never known a violent "pothead".

Common misconception, drinking makes men beat women. Because we live in an imperfect world, there are men that beat women and what’s even more baffling is that there are women that stay with men that beat them. Not only do we have women that stay with men that beat them, but we also have a lot of women that purposely provoke violent men. We could take these “poor battered women” and give them a stellar fellow. A nice old chap that is always the gentleman and would never beat them. Here’s the baffler of all bafflers, the battered women will cry, “The gentleman is too boring!” and she runs back to the man that beats her. If she can’t find the man that used to beat her, she’ll find another. I think that battered women are sicker than the men that beat them.

Alcohol versus Marijuana…

That’s a though one. I think that it all boils down to one thing, moderation. For the average user, both drugs are safe to consume. For the heavy user, both are dangerous. For the extremist, alcohol is by far more dangerous due to it’s physical addiction.

Alcohol doesn’t make anybody do something that they weren’t already capable of doing. “A drunk mans words are a sober man’s thoughts.”

Both marijuana and alcohol are destructive. Too many people see that there is nothing wrong with marijuana.

When I was a teacher, I never seen any of my students come to school drunk, but I had to deal with plenty of students that were high. Anyone who thinks that marijuana is OK should try teaching a kid who is high.

Both of them are destructive but if you are going to compare alcohol is more destructive than marijuana because it can depress your central nervous system and can affect the functioning of your brain. It can also affect your liver which is a very important organ in your body. The effect of marijuana is just habbit - forming.

I believe there is much more crime in America due to Alcohol than Marijuana, however that is quite possibly because Alcohol use is much higher than Marijuana use. I agree with the person some above me who said, both are okay in moderation, and destructive in excess.

Both have their bad points. But Marijuana does have some proven medical benefits such a decreasing pressure in the eyes of glaucoma patients and promoting weight gain in AIDS patients that have lost their appetites. Alcohol is more dangerous, has only dubious and questionable medical benefits and has caused many needless deaths.
EDIT: I just wanted to add that there is already a med made from marijuana called "Marinol".

Alcohol has a greater destructive effect on the body then marijuana does. When was the last time you heard of someone smoking too much weed and beating his wife? The most that ever happens from smoking too much weed is eating a lot of pizza.

Excess is more destructive. If you enjoy them in moderation niether marijuana or alcohol will destroy anyone. The issue is over indulgence.

More people die from over indulgence in cigerettes and sugar than marijuana or alcohol. I.E. see cancer and diabetes.

PS "ginsf" it seems, doesn't smoke the good stuff

Every cop, firefighter/paramedic. and doctor I have ever asked that question has stated unequivocally that alcohol is the more dangerous of the two.

The long-term chemical effects of alcohol on the organs are devastating, its short-term effect on inhibition and judgement (which affect things like aggression and safety) equally so.

We don't spend a lot of time breaking up fights between stoners. They don't do drive-bys, either.

Drunks are a hundred times as dangerous on the road as potheads.

Many have died by alcohol poisoning and even from withdrawal. Nobody dies of pot, or of quitting pot.

I remember the old bumper sticker that said something like

"Man made beer, God made marijuana. Who do YOU trust?"

When someone drinks too much alcohol, they get really stupid, some get agressive, they can't see right, they can't think right. They go into blackouts and do things they don't remember, they hurt themselves and others.

If someone smokes too much weed, they get the munchies and fall asleep.

Not everyone who smokes pot is an unmotivated loser. People would be shocked if they were aware of the amount of successful, rich people who smoke it. Some people get more energy when they smoke it.

Statistics show more alcohol related deaths than marijuana.
