In my car's manual it says never try to shift from D to R when vehicle is moving; that it will ruin the transmission. But what about R to D? When reversing my car, I always come to a full stop before shifting to DRIVE.

You can cause damage on your tranny by doing that. It will not kill it the first 100 times but eventually it will take its toll. Best thing to do is stop completely then change the gear. And when parking, pull the e-break first then put the car in park. When going into drive...put the car in drive then release the e-break. This reduces the wear on your transmission. When you park on a hill and you take your foot off the break and you feel your car roll then quickly stop that's your transmission holding the car. That's not a good thing either. People don't realize that that does a lot of damage also.

You are doing right. You should always come to a complete stop before you shift from P to R, or from R to P. From R To D, or from D to R, and yes, you can ruin your Tranny if you do...
Good luck!

YOU ARE DOING THE SAFEST THING. SHIFTING FROM R TO D PUTS EXTRA LOAD ON THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND CLUTCHES IN THE AUTO GEAR BOX. HOWEVER IF YOU DO IT ONLY OCCASIONALLY BELOW 5 MPH YOU SHOULD BE OK

you need to take this automobile to a mechanic and allow him examine it out. it must be an adjustment or project with the masteer cylinder or the slave cylinder or in all probability a snatch.

This doesn't take a degree from N.A.S.A., D to R is no different than R to D. If you don't stop you soon will be, can you say Good bye to $1,500 - $2,000. and thanks for the new tranny.
