Because no player approaches his career percentages and averages, which is how we firstly judge players, after all. His slugging percentage is insane, his batting average is insane, his on-base percentage is insane, and he was even one of the most dominant pitchers of his era for the few years when he pitched. He is without a doubt the greatest slugger of all time, and the greatest player of all time.

Because The Babe was twice as good as Bonds*, and had a ten times better personality! He was the King of New York, The Sultan Of Swat, The Bambino! That is why to this day, when somene does something fantastic, it is called "ruthian". 50 years from now, when someone cheats, it will be called "bondsian*".

Because Bonds is a tool. He likes to be the victim. Look at any of his interviews.
Babe Ruth by no means was a perfect man, he had a lot of issues, but he still had some honor -- something Bonds neither has nor understands.

Because Ruth was the most important player in baseball history. He almost single-handedly changed it from a leisurely game of small hits to one where power was a significant factor in scoring. No matter who breaks his records, it is his impact on the game's dynamics that is his biggest contribution.

Well I really don't know why Babe was more popular, popular would probably be a better word. I guess he was just more likeable. He loved his fans, he never had problems with nobody. But I guess he is just sort of like America's Hero.

Willie Mays is the greatest player of all time and will be surpassed by A-Rod.
But, Babe will always be most famous player because of what he did to baseball. He revolutionized the game... he made it the sport it is today.
