...two different directors...two different visions!!!
Tim Burton, the director of both "Batman" and "Batman Returns", was obviously a big fan of the Frank Miller 'Batman' graphic comics...dark, grim and brooding...
Joel Schumacher, the director of "Batman Forever" and "Batman & Robin", was most definately a big fan of the '60's 'Batman' T.V. series...campy, colorful, with an abundance of one-liners...
Plain and simple, the cinematic visions of both of these directors, reflect their corresponding appeal to this mysterious and legendary character...namely, 'The Batman'...
...despite the varied critical banter, each film has definately succeeded on it's own individual merit...and I personally embrace each film with great relish...
...it's always sorta irked me, this indecision as to how 'The Batman' should be depicted..."He should be THIS way"..."No, he should be THIS way"..."He shoudn't be THIS way". There have been numerous incarnations of 'The Batman', stemming all the way back to the 1930's...each equally intriguing and compelling...and I say, "Who cares???", as long as it's fun and entertaining...
...after all, isn't THAT what going out to the movies, is all about???

Wow, I think you are the first person in history that has ever made that statement.
I hate this movie, cause they took something so great and made it a crappy comic book...you wouldn't even find a batman comic book like this.
I have to say I really only like the first batman, I can stand the second one...but after that....it went downhill.
Arnies one liners destroy this movie, they had an opportunity to make Mr Freeze a great character, but they just went with and obvious solution. The only way they could have screwed up this more was to hire lou ferrigno.
George Clooney as batman...seriously??? That's believable, he is about as intimidating as mickey mouse.
Chris O'Donnell is such a wooden plank...boring
Uma Thurman is way over the top, and really not a temptress at all like Poison Ivy is..
This was the first time I wish Bane really would have broken Batmans back.
Hey we need to find a woman for bruce...I know let just hire a hot model who has pretty much acted as a model and been nude through the rest of another movie...great Idea!!
Ohh and I forgot about Vivica A Fox...as...wait for it....Ms. B. Haven.....when did this become a James bond movie?
Essentially Joel Schumacher took over the series...Michael Keaton though it was a terrible idea how he wanted to take the series...so he quit...he took on Val Kilmer...who hated it after one...and then took Clooney, and wouldn't you know it...that sucked to!
There is no redeeming qualities to this movie...it is a turd, if I owned it...it would probably be a coaster.

uhm... because it was painfully obvious that the people who made it knew absolutely nothing about why the first film was so successful, and they thought all they had to do was throw a lot of flash and glitter together with no regard for the characters (who are basically american icons) in an abysmally standard hollywood take on a classic story. Burton and Nolan understood what Schumacher did not: Bruce Wayne is the Mask; Wayne is the false face, not Batman. there was no portrayal of rage in this film from batman. that's the character. that's the movie. idiots like shiny things; the rest of us like to know there's a dark side, and life is more complicated than the things we see everyday.

People are sheep and will agree with whatever the first person to open his mouth says.
Batman and Robin was decent, I've seen worse. A bad movie is one that ambles on with no point. Children of Men and Zodiac are perfect examples.
Batman Begins was definitely the worst. The PR machine saved it. I thought it was the pretentious Batman. It tried to pass itself off as something groundbreaking and different, but it was really a run-of-the-mill action movie in different clothing.
Christ, there were even ninjas. Aren't ninjas the refuge of every bad action film maker?

You are entitled to your opinion, of course.
However, most people detested this movie. The acting was terrible, every other line of dialogue was a lame "one-liner" joke. The special effects looked fake, every action scene looked like guys were just hanging around on wires (which they were). And George Clooney was basically just standing around trying to look pretty in his rubber suit.

By no means do I think it was the best of the series, or even a good movie for that matter, but I did like it. Yeah, yeah, bring on the thumbs-down...
