i recently purchased a ryobi hammer drill and put that thing to work and can say it works great. If it is just for residential home use then stick with names like ryobi. Dew alt and Makita are geared more toward contractors.

Your talking about an "impact drill" do you mean a "hammer drill" these are a specialized drill for concrete work, something you may never use. I wouldn't buy one unless I intended to use it a lot. I do own one but now that I'm retired I hardly use it. I borrow it out more then I use it.
These are twice as much as a regular drill cordless or not.
You get what you pay for. I always buy a "contractors " drill or saw or, whatever. These are usually steel ball bearings and steel parts, not plastic or resin. They last longer and can take wear better. That's another reason you pay more.

My first Makita cordless lasted through 10 years of regular use, including the charger and one battery. Have had a dewalt for a couple of years and it seems okay.

tools are an investment and if you want tools you can depend on go with a good brand like makita. they are not the only makers of quality tools. i like porter cable personally.
