Yes they do. I have friends that have snakes as pets. Any animal, be it a snake or even scorpions can be trained and cultivated. Its how you nourish your pet fr birth that makes the difference! Try not to bring out the killer instinct in them. learn the do's and dont's prior to getting a snake as a pet!!!

I have known several snakes, and I do believe that they have distinct personalities, or at least react indicidually to certain things. For example my kingsnake is generally shy in his tank, and when you take him out he's inquisitive but calm, and doesn't like many people besides those that live in this house and handle him regularly. My little garter snake is the complete opposite--she is interested in everything, especially if it's in her tank, and she doesn't much like being handled but is tolerant of it and never aggressive. Personally, I think that reptiles are just as varied in personality as dogs and cats.

-grins- Oh definately! I had a corn snake that I rescued and worked with a few months before rehoming him. He was hell-bent on attacking everything. Even my dog and ball python (he'd see them through his cage)
My ball python is utterly adorable and is very curious. Each snake just has their own little quirks. Kaa (my ball) is quite fun in the fact that when someone else is holding him, as soon as he senses me nearby he wiggles out of their hands and back to me. (I'm the provider/living security blankie. LOL)
Yes they each have their own personalities and can come to favor you over others...esp since I'm the only one that handles him on a day to day basis. ^.^

You have to be careful not to ascribe human emotions/feelings to these beautiful creatures. Their actions are driven by instinct, not by intelligence. They act & react to given situations by relying on thousands of years of survival instincts, not logic or reason. All of my snakes exhibit different behaviors, but I really wouldn't call them personality traits, but rather patterned behaviors common to all of their kind.

To a certain extent they do. It is based upon their natural likes and aversions, and what we perceive them to be. It is called the Disney Syndrome, whereby, we ascribe certain human like behavior to pets and other animals.
