Depends on what you want to do..1gb is probably fine for casual gaming and everything else

if you're going to do hardcore gaming and/or intense graphics stuff, i'd go for the 2gb

The following is a quote from PC Magazine referenced below:
"Vista itself likes having more than 2GB of RAM. The reason is SuperFetch, the smart caching technology built into Vista. SuperFetch will happily use excess memory to help speed up disk access by keeping frequently used data cached in memory. So having more than 2GB is of greater benefit in Vista than in Win XP." Enough said.

If you're running XP, 1gb is fine.
For Vista, definately 2gb.

Be forewarned! There is a lot of "junk" ram out there! But a guaranteed RAM that's certified. Buy a brand name mfr like Crucial.

unless you are going to try and run a couple high end games at the same time, or are going to be doing some serious 3D rendering, 1gig of ram should be more than enough for you

The higher the better. Aslo see the speed of the rams. The higher the speed the better it is.

the thing with RAM is if you get 1 big chip, then its slower, than if you get 2 smaller chips, really if you go for the gig, then youd be fine, make sure its compatible with your motherboard, and the speeds match, make sure its fast, otherwise its not even worth getting,
