You can try a Homestay as you could stay with a family who may have an extra room. You would then have the opportunity to learn more about the culture as well as limiting your expense output. Youth hostels, pensions or pensiones, also offer cheap bunk-style lodging that is ideal for backpackers. You can cook in some of them and is a great place to meet people in your similar budget range, age, and interests.

Travelling Eurail is economical, but not cheap. If you only want to go to a few places, then point-to-point train tickets are often cheaper. It's a great opportunity, and once you are bitten by the travel bug and get a taste of other cultures, you will be enriched forever! Have fun as your adventures should not be limited by your budget.
