I do not know if this is a fuse you have to change or if some kind of wiring that doesnt work. Your help is greatly appreciated.

The speed gage and odometer are partially linked. The fact your speed gage is working means your odomenter is bust. That means between the gear system on the axle to the gear system on the gage there is a busted gear. It is all set on timing and given yours is a 90 it is based on mechanical timing and not computer computations. Take your Miata into a certified Mazda CSE tech and get it fixed.

Miatas use a cable from the tail shaft housing of the transmission to the speedometer. The usual problem is a broken cable. Remove the cable end at the transmission. Pull the cable out. It will probable be broken near the transmission because there is a sharp bend there.

the speedometer cable is divided in like 3 parts ones goes to cluster to firewall the other ones to near the trans and there is the last part of the cable that you have to replace

most proteges and miata speedometer cable brokes last section of cable so replace it by yourself is very easy instalation

your cluster is mechanical not electrical for that year of your car

A Protege I used to have did the same thing. Found out it was the speedometer cable. It shouldn't cost you more than $150 to have a shop replace it- and even that's a little high.
