I know they're phases.
I just forgot some of them because my mind just went blank for a moment.
I'm in advance science so of course I know what the moon is and what it does.

There are eight phases.

New Moon
Waxing Crescent
First Quarter
Waxing Gibbous
Full Moon
Waning Gibbous
Last Quarter
Waning Crescent

Wax means to increase or grow. Wane means to diminish, decline, or decrease.

What gets me worried about a question like this (and we seem to get plenty) is that people should be able to see the moon all their lives, in different phases.

Tell me, when was the last time you saw the moon? You should get out more.
