In the end, I need to find the value of all the variables (a,x,y,z) So, I only need to know the value of one variable to figure out the rest.

2x=2a Therefore x=a
2y=a Therefore y=a/2
-2x-y+z+9=0
or,z=2x+y-9
=2a+a/2 -9
=5a/2 -9
=(5a-18)/2 ans

Okay, Oki!

#1, label the equations 1,2,3 ect...
1)2x-2a=0
2)2y-a=0
3)-2x-y+z+9=0
Get rid of "x or a" sense both equations don't have the letter "z".
Notce: that all 3 equations represent a single leter, x,y,z.

Solve first two equations

x =+a
y = +a/2

then -2x-y+z+9 =0 = -2a-a/2+z+9 = -5/2a+z+9

z = 5/2a-9

That's all you can do

x=a
y=a/2
-2x+y+z+9=0
-2(a)+a/2+z+9=0
multiply by 2
-4a+a+2z+18=0
-3a+2z+18=0
2z=3a-18
2z=3(a-6)
z=3(a-6)/2

I got x=a, y = .5a, z = -9 + 2.5a, and a is a free variable.
