The congress is corupt and paid off. The judges in the judical system are corupt and paid off. Yet doesn't it occur to people to think that something very bad is happening to this country. Where are our checks and balances? People are quick to quote, but can you really justify all the things government has done lately? Not to mention what they are planning to do to our country. What are your thoughts?

Very soon every bodys work will be tried for what it really is which means in simplistic terms that the hours of the job you did will be added up, so will the files be reviewed that the person was responsible for, the outcome of the information in the files, the wages paid for that person handling the work, that will be calculated according to the work that will be summed up to the ballance, and then the judgment according to the outcome as they say... will be added unto you. Begins in 2008. Some will be rewarded some will be tried some will be whatever they are meant to be in a new world order.

The check are called ELECTIONS. Too many people actually WANT the things you are complaining about. No matter what you are complaining about, too many people actually want it. The ULTIMATE check on the government is the 2nd amendment viewed in light of the Declaration of Independence.
"That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, an to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety ans Happiness." -- from paragraph 2 of the Declaration of Independence.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. -- 2nd Amendment
I submit the 2nd amendment is intended to protect the freedom of the PEOPLE from the GOVERNMENT. In the Constitution and the Declaration, people always means individuals. The Framers made clear that the government draws its power from "the consent of the governed". The ultimate check is the withdraw of that consent.

The "checks and balances" were the regulatory enforcement and oversight powers that the GOP Congress (1995-2007) -- and Bush, starting in 2001-- systematically removed. Here's one example (of dozens). Prior to 2004 financial lending institutions--ESPECIALLY mortgage lenders--were required to have a minimum of their own money invested as a reserve (this served to keep the company stable during business downturns). The Bush administration cut those reserve requirements to almost nothing in 2004 (down from about 8% to under 2%. Consequently,when the housing bubble began to burst, all these companies did not have the needed reserves to cope with the cooling market. Here's a general hint you might want to pass along to your "con" friends. They--and their politicians--got tossed out because they screwed up. Until and unless they quit making excuses and trying to blame their failures on others, and start getting their own hose in order--they are going to STAY out of power.

Unfortunately, sometimes the system takes awhile to complete the checks and balances. Here's how the checks and balances work:
Legislative branch checks on the executive ( impeachment, declaring war, taxes, senate appointments, etc..) & Judiciary (senate approves judges, inferior courts, etc...) & itself (bills passed by both houses, no adjournals for more than 3 days, etc..).
The executive branch checks on the legislative (veto power, commander in chief, emergency sessions, etc..) & judiciary (appointing judges, pardoning, etc...) & itself (VP & Cabinet not capable of its duties, etc...).
The Judicial branch checks on legislature (judicial review, seats on good behavior, etc...) & executive (judicial review, chief justice, etc...)
The only way we are going to make a real change is to vote accordingly and demand changes.
I agree that the government is kind of screwed up right now but hopefully changes will be made with the next election.

We have three branches of government. Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. The Executive is the enforcement section of the government. The Legislative is the law making section. The Judicial is the section of government that determines if the laws are proper and have been applied correctly. Not everyone is government is corrupt.
