I live in Orange County so I have a little experience about this and know a few people that have tried to get out of tickets. They try to schedule all the cops court appearances on a few specific dates. If you go for a continuance there is a small chance that the officer wont show up, but they do get paid for going to court so it is unlikely. You are dealing with the ca highway patrol and not the orange county sheriffs dept. I have never tried to fight a ticket because I knew I had very little chance but I know several fam members and friends that have. Sometimes if you get a sympathetic judge they will dismiss the charge, esp if you seem sincere and you have a good story, but this is rare. I have had a couple friends get theirs dismissed, though. A few people I know have also been able to get the charges lowered. There is a risk to court, however. If you want to go to traffic school and have it erased from your record there is a chance that going to court wont give you that option. Traffic school in Orange County sucks, too, because you have to go to a courthouse traffic school and its really really boring with really strict rules.
