Ever since i was 4,i remember keeping this beautiful notebook. It had a gold lock on the front, and a flowery pattern.Every single page smelled of perfume, and i just remember everything about it really. From 4 years old,i wrote stories in it,about all sorts of crazy things until i stopped one day at about 11,feeling i had a writer's block. Then i met an english teacher he says i had a real flair for english, and she said that he believed if i wanted to be a writer i would be.That is when i decided i wanted to study journalism when i was older.I've now done work experience in a newspaper, and want to study it at uni. However people have warned me it might not be for me just ebcause i enjoy journalism or i might not make it.Do you think i could and why do you think i love it so much?

Oooph, journalism?
That is recording facts
And if you make up stories that sound good, maby you should be a fiction writer.

Whomever said you had a flair for writing was clearly full of crap if this post is any indication of your skills.

Journalism (well, being a writer in general) requires a damn thick skin, an ability to be assertive and get your story, following proper ethics, knowing how to sort and quote your sources, knowing how to write leads and sort facts, etc. Speaking as a former journalist, it is tough work.

If writing is your passion then study and practice often. Consider a major in Journalism (English is not a marketable degree unless you plan to go into teaching) or something along those lines. Journalism is low-pay and incredibly competitive. Without the writing, editing, and overall skills to be a journalist, you won't survive.

Good luck to you.

Try and try until you succeed. Practice is the key. And as long as you have heart and passion in writing for sure you can make it. If you love your work your work will love you too. Everyone can be a reader but not everyone can be a writer. It is an inborn talent and it should be keep and improved and used effectively. Not everyone have given the chance and opportunity to be a journalist so you must cherished it. If you are happy ond what you're doing then pursue it. I hope you will become a good journalist. It's a respectful proffession and it's a great priviledge to serve people by sharing your ideas and by giving out information.
Wish you all the best! Goodluck! May you succeed in your career. God bless and long lived!

Well, it certainly is difficult for me to tell whether or not you can write by your sample above. Some of your sentences could be structured in a less awkward fashion for the sake of clarity and readability. Your use of the pronouns he/she is confusing in you sentence about an English teacher who told you that you could write. If you want to write in English, especially as a professional writer of any genre, you must have an excellent command and understanding of the English language. We are a gender-specific language and we do think in terms of a man as he,him, his and a woman as she, her, hers. As for why you love journalism, no one has the answer to that question except you. Do I think you could develop a successful career in journalism? Show me a good sample of one of your writings in which you took your time to edit and proofread for professional polish, interest, and precision. Best of luck to you! Yes, do pursue your dream. I can't tell you what you can or cannot do. I can only judged based on the paragraph you submitted herein with your question.

And journalism is bad because??? Many authors started out as journalists. Start with one named Hemingway. Just off the top of my head I can think of Michael Connelly who was a crime beat reporter for hte LA Times, Daniel Silva who was a reporter for CNN and Carl Hiaasen who is a syndicated columnist. There are many more opportunities for journalists than fiction authors. And many journalists moonlight and write at night. Pax - C

Well, I started out the same. When I was 6, I set up a makeshift desk in my toy room; I broke apart a toy cupboard (my mother was pissed!!) and decided to write everyday. I would write short stories and actually bind pieces of loose leaf paper together using glue. I'm a journalist, now. So, yes, I think people who already had an inkling over what their "calling" was much earlier in life than most people, believe in themselves already. You just don't know it.

I think it takes discipline, but yes, I think you can ...

Do you want to write stories or report news, facts, and such? Journalism is about reporting what is, and lately, how to slant the facts to support your own personal agenda. OR do you want write stories? Two totally different approaches. Have you considered Creative Writing, or what ever you have available to you in that area?
