Society today..... Religion did help its development, but ever since the Industrial Revolution it has only hampered its full potential and right now it has put us at a standstill.

Hugh, you answer to a question in philosophy is an allusion to South Park.

Question your beliefs....if not you'll see life lessons on Comedy Central. Is the Media be replacing Religion as we speak? Well, most kids do get their values from it.....

says "they (Science) are still finding evidence of its existence." Do you Religion or god? If Religion af course it exists, turn on the news and you see a reference to it; and if god, Can any one give me an example?

Happy Helper, Religion is the creation of people (and the worst yet). I wasn't refering to technological advancement but to the advancement of Society to a better, unrotten whole.

Happy Helper, Religion is the creation of people (and the worst yet), and that creation has influence people into commiting barbarities, therefore religion itself is but the innocent ignorant's creation of a mass murder weapon.

I wasn't refering to technological advancement but to the advancement of Society to a better, unrotten whole.

The world will progress because not everyone subscribes to religion. On a recent science podcast I heard someone say that 40% of practicing scientists still believe in a deity. Well if you look at it from the other side, that's 60% who _don't_.

In the rest of society, at least here in the US, nonbelievers are only around 10%. But I would be willing to bet that your average nonbeliever is probably much more likely than believers to be in a demanding, highly productive career such as research or the information sector, where most of the advancements of society occur. Indeed, the extra-rational mind that accompanies atheism is often well-suited for the challenging tasks in progressing society.

Hmmn, hard choice....I choose number 6!!

When you refer to religion hindering technological (and other kinds of) advancement, I know where you're going, but religion isn't the culprit. People are. religion is fine, it is the human that interprets it differently. The Ten Commandments tell you not to kill, yet the Crusades were all about killing others and "taking over the motherland."

People have used religion as an excuse for their actions, either blaming a fictional evil being (Satan) or saying that it's for God, or God wants this.

Seriously, that's the same as saying God told me to, which kinda sounds like the Dog told me to.

Religion is NOT a degenerative disease, humans inability to take responsible of their own actions is one, another is hate of differences.

So, in conclusion, I don't think you should ever say that a concept is responsible for society's lack of progress. Blame the people.

"I wasn't referring to technological advancement but to the advancement of Society to a better, unrotten whole."

I thought you were but it did need specifying as we have 'progressed' in leaps and bounds.

I’m presuming you mean 'civilised' as in ...
Gandhi was once asked what he thought of western Civilisation.
Gandhi replied: It would be a good idea, wouldn't it?

6) It is the nature of any living entity (as we, as a species, are) to grow; there are few constraints ‘guiding us’ as to which way we will grow.
Although religion is a constraint it can be a catalyst for 'evil' or 'good' – eg: Christian pogroms on Jews OR Christians starting Hospitals.

There are some countries which are more civilised than others.
Take for instance the Death Penalty.
Most civilised countries know that the Death Penalty is a) not a deterrent and b) not real civilised, however, the US, which counts itself among the civilised, isn’t, because it’s run by Xians who do Old Testament stuff about eyes for eyes and teeth for teeth.

Not number one, it will progress, the world is a big place.
Not number two- I'm atheist, and I don't believe in faith, but there is nothing wrong with those who do.
Not three- Do we have hard-hitting scientific evidence of any "supernatural power"?
Not four, there are too many people in the world to all fall under one system.
So that leaves number five.... I guess there is such a thing as good ignorance?

The selection you have given is not the selection I would choose to answer your question. I will however, answer with this: Like all degenerative disease, one finds a cure, without a cure, the disease will still progress. Being as you have chosen, religion to be your marker of a so called "degenerative disease?" Then, you have chosen a marker that has a cure. Religion is its own cure. Religion will continue to progress and move forward no matter how it's discriminated against, condemned or devoured.

So is Religion a cure for Mankind? To those who believe it? Yes. And to those who don't? No. Now I shall answer your selections:

1. "it won't progress." Yes it will progress, it always have.

2. "Faith." Religion is all about faith.

3. "A supernatural power." It's no supernatural than labor pains.

4. "Atheism." There are always skeptics in everything, not only in Religion.

5. "Just as science has, ignoring it" Science didn't ignore it, they are still finding evidence of its existence.

With all that's said, we are who we are, and we believe what we want to believe. You either believe in it or you don't.

Edit: Why would you need examples of God's existence? How much MORE examples do you need in order for you to stop being judgmental? Is it because the evidence that you are seeking, is the evidence that would prove God as non-existent? Obviously that is what you are seeking.

If Scientists can find a number of things that the Bible have mentioned, then, would it be, that NOW skeptics are wanting proof of the existence of God? Or if God exist? What do you want? God's DNA? If it's God's existence that you seek, then, you will find it. Ask those who worship him, praise him and speak highly of HIM if God exist. They will tell you. God exist.

AND if you think putting words in people's answers is going to create something of value to you? Then, I would think twice about it. I only answered you because it required a reply.

Just be thankful that those with a view of Objective Reality are in the right places in this world. I'd hate to see NASA technicians relying on divine providence everytime a rocket lifts off.....

I agree with South Park promoter.

South Park answers all the questions of conscience and should be mandatory viewing for everyone in my autocracy.

It doesn't matter what inspires, just that one is inspired.

watch the southpark episode, were Cartman gets frozen in ice and is defrosted in the future, and the entire human race forsakes religion for science. Then you'll understand the stupidity of atheism. "All praise science!"

PS. the only degenerative disease in society are ignorant ******* that want to force people to believe in what they perceive to be the truth.
If a religion teaches a man to be good, what is wrong with that? they are happy, are you unhappy that they are happy?

Comedy central is the only source of free speech nowadays, as everything else is media propaganda. The whole south park theme is asking a question "What would happen if religion was gone?" and their answer was that science would take over as the guiding source of human behavior.
They can give me all the thumbs down they want, they'll never force feed me their crap.
