Ok Im 18 about to start college and my sisters taking me shopping. Im kind of skinny and 6 foot 1. I'm a really nice guy and I don't act tough or anything Im pretty gentle, into hanging out and doing yoga.(No im not gay) I don't do hollister or that stuff. I would like to appear as an all around nice cool guy and maybe not so freakishly tall. What styles colors and sizes would you wear if you were me?

1] wear jeans/pants that fit your waist and butt. Suggest two-three pairs of jeans [ different washes or cuts ], and 2-3 pairs chinos, in darks and lights [ black, navy,charcoal/tan, brown, loden ].No pleated fronts, please - you will look like a kangaroo with a pouch.
2] buy shirts that fit in the shoulders first, then chest/abs. Too big or too small make you look bonier. Hemmed sleeves and bottoms look best [ vs. banded ].
3] short sleeved -shirts: buy solid, 'nice' Ts or polos in several bright colors [ blue, red, green, purple, yellow, orange - whatever looks good on you ], not patterns. They are more flattering than all neutral, and more dressy than screen printed Ts. [ for dates, church, applying for job, etc.]
4] bring a few long sleeved shirts, and one or two ties. Try to get the ones that don't need ironing, and avoid prints except for stripes. White, and light or medium blue are usually good to start. Bring or buy a tie[s] that goes with both.
5] a navy blue sport coat would be nice.
6] collect some belts - you are one of the body builds that always look better with shirt in, and belt on. Get a webbed or plain one for jeans, and a 'croc' stamped or braided one for dressing up. Belts should match pants or shoes [ jeans it isn't necessary ]
7] bring some decent shoes - sneaks, and flip flops, of course! But add comfortable walking shoes that are presentable.Leather sandals are ok until it gets cool [ don't be one of those guys who comes to class with 'popsicle feet'
[ blue, frozen toes when it's 30 degrees out! ]
8] get a decent haircut or trim before you leave for school
9] make sure you have at LEAST eight days worth of:
shirts
socks
underwear
things to sleep in [ not everyone appreciates letting it all hang out ]
10] don't forget the old Ts and sweats or shorts for working out - relieves tension, and starts a good habit!
PS: in college, a lot of guys will be taller than you! Work on pushups, abs, and strength training to build up muscles.

I would suggest layering. To make you look not so tall, try jeans with a belt, a t-shirt and a jacket. When you wear anything though, dont wear all of the same color because that's a fasion rule that is intended to make you appear taller, whether you are or not. As far as sizes, go for things that fit comfortably, but not too tight. Baggy clothes will make you look not only tall, but just too big overall.
If you don't like the "preppy/surfer" stores, I would try smaller and non-name brand stores so that you can find your own style.
Good luck! and have fun shopping :)

You shouldn't "pick" a style. You should wear what you're comfortable in and not care about what people think. In college, people couldn't care less about what you wear. You really shouldn't either.

You seem pretty down to earth, I would focus on neutral colors and then build from there !
