Cape Cod is an amazing place. Their are a lot of things you can do as a couple, by yourself and as a family.

Of course the beaches are popular tourist attractions, but what makes Cape Cod special is the atmosphere.

You could cross Yarmouth and head to Barnstable Harbor to board a whale watch boat that will go to Stellwagen's Bank, home to many humpback whales.

Other good day trips close to Yarmouth are the Hy-line ferries to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard. The ferry goes to Oak Bluffs where you can rent a car, scooter or I recommend bicycles. You can trek across the Vineyard to Edgartown which has been used in a lot of movies, have a picnic at the lighthouse, shop in the small village or just let your family go ice cream sampling through the different parlors.

Yarmouth is home to the best restaurants on Cape Cod. At least if you are a New England clam chowder fan. The Lobster Boat won this year's contest for best chowder, but it is not the best. The best is not far from there, just down the road at Skipper's. It is pseudo waterfront dining, but reasonably priced, family oriented and the best chowder around.

At night, the Cape Cod Baseball League is the way to go. The playoffs and championship are going on now so the season is about over, but the Cape Cod Times will have the date and location of the games. It is a summer tradition for the people on the Cape to flock to amateur baseball's premier league. The league handpicks the best college players from around the country to work on the Cape and play at night. Numerous hall of famers started their careers here on the Cape including Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek, as well as Dustin Pedroia, Nomar Garciaparra, Frank Thomas, Jeff Bagwell, Lance Berkman, Eric Byrnes, etc etc. The numbers differ but about 1 in four professional players played here.

The Cape is a great place to take up kayaking. A few places offer rentals at decent rates. The best places to start are Barnstable Harbor in Barnstable and Waquoit Bay in Mashpee.

The Cape is great for kayaking, biking, dining, beach going camping and photography. Plenty of scenic roads, beach passes, and lighthouses offer themselves as premier photo opportunities. Don't be afraid to just get lost and try to find them.

Have a great week on the Cape!

I live mid-cape in Yarmouth. There are great beaches all the way from Bourne to Provincetown. A lot of the beaches East of Orleans as National Seashore and run by the US Parks Dept. The most "urban" section of the Cape is Hyannis but there are great things to do all over. There is a nice bike trail, many lighthouses and each downtwon area is very nice. Boston to Yarmouth is about 70 miles. Rt 93S to Rt3 3S, over the Sagamore flyover and onto Rt6. Going east from Yarmouth you will get to Dennis, Harwich, Brewster, Orleans, Wellfleet, Truro and then Provincetown. All are great little towns. Provincetown is the most busy of all those tows because there is boat service from Boston. If you are open minded it's a great place to go. Going west from Yarmouth you have Hyannis, Centerville, Sandwich, Falmouth and Bourne. The Cape Cod Baseball League will be in full swing and you can see the stars of tomorrw play today. Teams are scattered all over the Cape. The Cape Cod Canal is a very nice walk and the fishing should be good. Enjoy your trip!

There's some shops and restaurants. You can take the Ferry out to Martha's Vineyard. You can play mini golf. There are some Whale Watching tours, but I am not sure what parts of the Cape they leave from compared to Yarmouth.

There are great bike trails, walks along the beach, whale watches, and taking a day trip to Martha's vineyard or Nantucket might be fun. I would suggest walking along main street in Chatham ( a few towns away from Yarmouth). There are great shops and restaurants.

3 Words.... Cape Cod Baseball. If you love baseball then you will fall in love with the CCL. Also, there are ferries that leave from Hyannis (30 mins max. from Yarmouth) that take you to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, I would definitely suggest going to Martha's Vineyard, gorgeous beaches down there.
