I have an older HP 6545C (Celeron 500, 96megs of ram, Sound Blaster PCI, ATI 6500 PCI with 64 megs of VRAM, ethernet controller) that I'd like to put to use, but I'm not sure how. I've thought of these things so far, but none of them really seem to work for me:

-Linux box. But it's a little too underspec'd for that, plus I already have Linux running on 3 of my other computers.
-MAME/Emulators. Once again, underspec'd.
-Home server. But I'd rather not leave any computer running all the time, and we already have one we're using as such.
-Take it apart. But I already know how they go together (I built my own recently.)

Any other thoughts than these...?

Best thing to do with a machine like that would be to sell it.. I don't know anything about linux or any of the other operating systems out there. But, as far as Windows goes. The best you'd be able to run would probably be Windows ME. And I don't think that microsoft supports that operating system any longer.

Both the Salvation Army and Goodwill Thrift Stores accept old computers that are in good working order.

What you should do is just keep as an antique. Like many other golden age-computers they are auctioned off at expensive prices. You might think your computer is worth nothing but as long it works and is in good shape you will be sure that it will accumulate price. So just hide in a safe and clean place and wrap in something so that moist and dust won't come in.
