I don't mean if a needle is poked in very deep or if you are zapped with too many volts. I am wondering if there are any acupuncture points or combination of points that can be lethal when activated, or can result in some other negative effect.

Short answer no.

Yes, the principles of acupuncture were also used in the field of martial arts. Advanced practitioners careful placed pressure points along meridians (energy pathways) of the body, which were designed either to delay death, maim or to kill their opponent.

Over the years, this art has either died down or have been passed on to a select few. At the same time however, the helpful, beneficial acupuncture points have accumulated over hundreds of years, and these are the ones in which acupuncturist currently study and practice.

It is extremely rare for an acupuncturist to cause death based on the placement of the needles, as they are trained to work only with the beneficial points learned in their study.

The only way that could happen is if the person applying the therapy wasn't skilled enough (meaning un-trained).

I've never heard of anything like that happening before, but if someone did a "by mail course" (as an example), they may be asking for trouble
