See, I have a Shih-Tzu named Snowball. I was going to buy him another Shih-Tzu cause our family figured we wanted puppies. (Don't ask, please.) But then, we have this other guy, our neighbor, he gave us his female cat. (Again, don't ask, please.)

And now, Snowball and Scratcher are sort of snuggling noses and Scratcher's tale is always waving around softly when next to Snowball. I'm getting worried. What is possibly going on? A dog mating with a cat? HAS THE WORLD GONE INSANE?

(MY LIFE IS ODD!)

You wanted a profession answer. Here it is. Yes the world has gone insane. People are still breeding their backyard dogs with millions of healthy dogs are put to sleep everyday. They don't care what happens to the puppies that they brought into the world as long as they get to-
witness the "miracle of birth"
have a piece of their dog forever with its puppies
"make" a few buck of the sale of the puppies.

Your male dog will try to mount the cat if the cat will let it, which if it is a female and your have not spayed her, she will. They can not have off spring. Simple solution, have them altered.

It is impossible for a cat and a dog to mate effectively. It sounds like they are just good companions and like each other. The signs you are describing of your cat is just signs of affection. They like each other, their buddies, and that is actually really good! There are not many cats who will tolerate a dog! The snuggling noses is actually just a sign of endearment. All is o.k. just enjoy your pets and know that it is all o.k.

No its fine! They're just getting along, you don't need to get so agitated. You should be happy that they're not fighting 24/7. Its like that cat and the grizzly at the zoo.

they are not mating ok..you must be crazy to think that..cats and dogs have that relationship that cats have with each other sometimes( you know how cats are always all over each other and are always happy to see the other cat) that is how the cat and dog are.they simply have deep feeling that only animals have with each other

and you dont need an expert to tell you that

just get the female dog and you will se that the male will be mating with the female as soon as she will let him

Seriously! An animal only mates his/her own kind!!!
The dog and 'Scratcher' are being friendly! Lots of cats and dogs are best friends and sleep together and all.

AND SPAY AND NEUTER ALL ANIMALS PEOPLE!!!

it's ok. that just means they're friends and should mostly get along. now you could tell if they were mating because they wouldnt necessarily be that quiet. so it's ok. and it is possible but not likely that the friendship will turn into romance.

No,it cannot happen. It is impossible for a cat and a dog to produce offspring,as they are different species. If you don't know that, then PLEASE don't breed your dog.Get him fixed ( and the kitty, too) and make the world a better place!
