wow you never even said this was about "Heroes" and I already knew what you were talking about just by reading the question :)

Yes, Peter was alive at the end of season one. He and Hiro were probably the most important "good guys" (although Claire's father might be a good guy too, we'll have to find out this season, won't we?). Sylar will be back too, and there's no good character that can single-handedly defeat Sylar. Peter is the only one with a chance....so maybe we'll see another show-down.

Yes, Peter will likely be back. And Sylar, too. A friend of mine gave me this idea on what happened.

Suppose that by the time he met up with Peter in Kirby Plaza, Sylar already killed the woman with the illusion power and took her power. He made everybody think he was Peter and Peter was him.

Then, when Hiro stabbed Peter (thinking it was Sylar!) Sylar was so pissed he used his telekinesis (no visible special effects, right? so we can't be sure who was really using the telekinesis) to throw Hiro into the wall. After all, Hiro stopped Sylar from getting all the other powers Peter had!

Nathan shows up and sacrifices himself to fly off with Peter (really, Sylar). When they are way up in the air, Sylar kills Nathan and takes his brain to get the power. Now Sylar can fly. Then Sylar cranks up the radiation power to the max to 'explode' and vaporizes Nathans body so there will be no remains and no suspicion.

Next season: Sylar makes himself look like Nathan and tells everybody Peter pushed away from him high in the sky so he survived when Peter exploded. Presto, Sylar is in the White House and we take it up from the episode where Nathan is elected President.

Meanwhile, Peter is having to recover from being stabbed with the sword, Hiro is finding his way back from the past, and Sylar will eventually want to find Claire and take her power so he will be immortal.

This covers all the bases and makes the future with Sylar as President possible.

Even if that did not happen, Sylar could still possibly have used his abilty to absorb the powers of the cockroach at the end of that episode. Some insects can be cut up and regenerate; maybe Sylar absorbed that from the roach. So he could still be back.

Also, (if you read the backstory in the on line graphic novels) Linderman's power was healing others. DL killed him when he phased his hand into his brain. Now, IF... we don't know, but if DL knew what Lindermans power was, he could feed the piece of brain he yanked out to his wife and she could then have the power to heal DL. (They'd probably have to eat a lot more than the small piece that Sylar eats when he cuts the skull open to observe the living brain in action. ) Then, once DL was healed, he could phase and let the bullet fall out of him.

(How long do you think it will be before someone else figures out how to gain/copy powers without having to kill people the way Sylar does? If Mohinder can copy or isolate the piece of DNA that makes the powers work, then it seems like almost anybody should be able to get them, by making more of the DNA. Powers, anybody...?)
