You would need to put a drain cleaner (Such as foaming pipe snake cleaner ) down the drain. Because you need to get rid of the dirt & goo that is above the trap & just under the drain basket. This will clean any nasty goo off the sides of the pipes. Then you can use Baking soda to keep it smelling clean. Also make sure your faucets don't drip. This is a cause of some of the nasty smelling goo. Constant water running down drain causes this especially if it is cold.

I assume you already have looked at these (the obvious). One more thought. Quite often this problem is caused by a plugged "vent". When a vent is plugged the water rushing down the pipe from other water sources tend to create a suction that empties your trap. That leaves the sink open to the sewer and ergo the smell.

Check to see that when you get the smell there is water in the trap.

It's most likely some old food or something that wasn't washed down completely. Just cut up a lemon, tangerine, or anything soft with a citrus smell. you can even shoot a little of lemon juice in some hot water and pour it down there. If you want to go the hard way, Get some drain-o or foaming pipe snake and follow the directions. that will get rid of whatever is on the walls of the pipes.

If it has a disposal, cut up a lemon into bits and pieces, put them in and turn on....it helps. If just a sink drain, plug, fill and empty several times...may have something on the sides of pipes rotting...needs a good flush.

It's what is stuck down in the pipes. Put a cup of baking soda in your drain followed by a cup of boiling water and let it sit for about 15 minutes and then run hot water for several minutes. That should remove the odor.

the most common reason is because when someone worked on your drain they didn't replace the elbow joint and the drain just goes straight out the wall. the elbow is for holding a small amount of water that acts as a plug to keep sewer gases out.
