I was just tapping the magnet to test it just in case it was dangerous but my mom came it and yelled "DON'T PRY THAT OUT OF THERE!!!" how do I explain it might be dangerous with out her yelling "Oh *JIM don't be so foolish."

In the past week or so the US Consumer Product Safety Division announced the following recalls for Mattel magnetic toys:
Mattel Recalls Doggie Day Care Magnetic Toys Due to Magnets Coming Loose
Mattel Recalls Barbie and Tanner Magnetic Toys Due to Magnets Coming Loose
Mattel Recalls Batman and One Piece Magnetic Action Figure Sets Due To Magnets Coming Loose
Additional Reports of Magnets Detaching from Polly Pocket Play Sets Prompts Expanded Recall by Mattel

The Mattel Consumer Relations has a website listing product recalls: http://service.mattel.com/us/recall.asp

I don't believe most American women are out here just condemning Mattel. Mattel has made many wonderful toys for our kids over the years. They're not all bad. We do need to have stricter standards on things we import from China, especially in view of the problems we've had lately. I wouldn't want to see us never import items from China, because we are able to buy many things in this country alot more inexpensively than we would if they were made in this country. I'm talking about all kinds of things from electronics to furniture. If alot of those items were made in the USA, they'd have to pay workers here a much higher salary with benefits, so the items would cost ten times as much as they do now. Just go to any store and pick it up and see where it was made. I know it's taking work away from us U.S. citizens, but the other side of the coin is that we can afford to buy more things that we want and need. We shouldn't forget that fact either.

I have no idea how you can identify "lead paint" with a magnet.

It's not made of "lead" or metal. No doubt plastic..
