I always hold the door open for people, because I think it's very rude not to.

I hold the door for everyone. I'll even hurry to beat someone to the door to open it for them. Just the way I was raised. It's the "southern" way of doing things.

Proper etiquette would suggest that it is polite and mannerly to hold the door for a person behind you. Have you ever had someone let the door go just before you reached for the door handle? Did you feel that it was rude? Just a thought to ponder. Thank you for holding the door, sir/ma'am.

I do, but then I get confused when they are a certain distance away. Sometimes I end up holding the door for like 5 minutes waiting for the person to come and then sometimes I think they are too far back and drop it right as they reach it...I can't win.

Absolutely always. It's extremely rude to let a door fall on someone else. It doesn't matter if you're a man or woman, the other person's older, younger, whatever, no excuses!
And letting the elevator door close when someone's on their way to catch it is also terribly rude.

And it is really starting to annoy me when others don't do the same.
I can't tell you how many times I've had a door close in my face when I am literally three steps behind someone who can't be bothered to pause and hold the door.

awww yeah.. to be honest i dont do it ALWAYS but i try to lol so i do it sometimes but like if it's a person that has too much in their hands or they're disables or a senior or anyone that needs help i always hold the door open for them

me too. it's a small thing i do to help people. they also hold the door open for me, and i'm sure to say thank you. there's nothing worse than holding the door open for someone and they just walk through w/o a glance.
