since i love the enigma song "return to innocence", id dissect some lines for you
=)))))))))))))))))))
"That's not the beginning of the end
That's the return to yourself
The return to innocence"
innocence could mean clearness or nothingness. it's just a matter of personal philosophy if you believe we were born pure or just empty. Pure than gets corrupted in the long run(if you believe that we are all regressing & not progressing), or empty that gets to be filled up both with positive and negative elements(through individual experiences)
"Don't be afraid to be weak
Don't be too proud to be strong
Just look into your heart my friend
That will be the return to yourself"
this line implies that keeping your inner child(being a child at heart) will make way for innocence. Humility is the keyword, with pride in the way- chance could be slim.
"Don't care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don't give up and use the chance
To return to innocence "
another key to innocence is freedom(or being carefree)..
whereas ignorance is lack of knowledge, innocence could be freedom from the limits of such knowledge.. not bound by the norms set by our society or human guidelines that hinder one's enjoyment of Life(through simplicity or one's eccentricity)

I think so, yes. What is innocence? Just be kind to others and ignore the petty losers who are jealous and hateful. Live a good life, work hard and take card of family and friends. I think that is simply and innocent enough.

You can't unlearn something. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse, ignorance of the fact is.
However, there are levels of innocence. When I was wrapped up in a suburban family lifestyle, my world was much more personal and smaller. Since then, my then more innocent state has been shattered and I see things on a larger scale. I can't honestly return to that lifestyle knowing what I know now.
But even with greater knowledge, I am still naive to even greater understanding.
That said, just forgetting the worries of the world and enjoying myself, playing... letting my imagination run, is something I've learned to do. Most sane people either have to remain very much to a smaller world-view or learn to shut out the reality of the world once in a while.
So, re your questions, in truth for me... 1) no 2) yes... with the exception of periodic visits.
Peace

I like to think in terms of William Blake. A young child (or adult) goes from innocence (not knowing about the world and easily being taken advantage of) to a state of experience (this is also dangerous b/c then you have lost imagination and you see the world as a place that is all hardships). You must take this journey to understand, but you also need to work past the age of Experience in order to reach a "higher level of innocence". This I believe exists.

Yes for certain if one focuses ones intention properly they can attain their eternal true innocence no matter how far they went off the track.
We are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this mortal body dies.
This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, and the rest are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships with our Maker named above. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga) which is the prefatory process to bring us to our real innocence and gives one real peace, happiness and reality. Then at the end of life they can return to the eternal Kingdom where there is no more birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy.
For info. Go to harekrishnatemple.com Read Bhagavad Gita- As it is by Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada asitis.com you can read it on line. Now I feel like my true self and retained my original innocence. I love this sublime process.

It is gone forever. Innocence is not knowing, purity and once you cross that line there is no turning back .

Past a certain age, innocence is a choice and can be returned to at any time. Just becasue one knows that there is something out there, doesn't mean that they have to participate or embrace it.
