All this in just a 6 HOUR period YESTERDAY. I work in retail in Kentucky:

1. One of my co-workers was completely cussed out because PS2 only comes with one, not two, controllers.
2. A lady came in who didn't even know if her phone was from Verizon or Virgin Mobile; all she wanted was a $20 phone card. The lowest denomination we sold was $25. O-M-G!
3. A man came in, his last 15 minutes on his phone card were gone. Said he had used the other 235. He wanted me to replace all of the 250 original min. on the card. When I couldn't, hell broke loose.
4. A woman came in last night, completely smarted off at me about the fact that we had an LCD TV on display but none to sell. I had to explain to her that we were out of stock but getting some in very soon. I had to page a manager b/c she was such a b*tch.
5. A man came in and wondered why our section didn't sell audio books. I told him they were with the books and magazines at the checkouts. He turned up his nose and rolled his eyes.

I have 2-3 more stories from just yesterday. I don't hate America; in fact, I'm proud to be from here. But, Kentucky (a so-called "friendly" and "hospitable" state) certainly sucks bigtime! I'm a really friendly, helpuful, professional Christian guy who is respectful of others, but it's becoming so hard.

That's why you should go to college, so you don't have to work retail. If you are going to college, just remember, you only have a few more years to go.

Most customers are rude, ignorant, and selfish. They only care for their own needs, and forget that the staff are people too. I treat the staff at any store I'm in with the same respect they give me. Only when they are being incredibly rude do I lash out at them. The last time I did this is when a manager didn't want to exchange a defective knife at Home Depot that had a 5 year warranty. The knife was a new item and has "Husky" written on the side, Home Depots brand. He was mad at me for not having a receipt

America is comprised of many different cultures including the UK, and many other countries. There is such a mix of races here you can not just say Americans. My friend I run into people like that here in Hawaii, the tourists are mean nasty, demanding people that try to take out all their aggressions here on us that live here and work here, so you are not the only one that deals with rudeness, and just plain nasty people. I just hope you have a better day. One day on my way to work a tourist decided that he should tell me my cigar stinks like ****, and I told him a few things then drove off. I should have never said anything to that idiot, but after just so much ,one gets mad at abusive behavior. I think you handled the situation very good, as you kept your cool.Take care.
