I want to buy a PC game but I don't wanna make the mistake of buying a game that isn't compatible with my laptop. I know the basics, like that I have 512mb RAM, 80gb hard drive, but I wanna know stuff like video card, sound card, chipset, things like that.... How can I find this stuff out? Is it written on my laptop, or saved as a file, or do I have to contact the company?

Go to start menu > Settings > Control Panel > System.

Select the hardware tab and click on the Device Manager button.

That will bring up a list of items running on your machine and you can look at each one.

Display adapter shows your video card. Click on it to bring up some details. You can adjust the resolution by right clicking over your desktop and selecting properties.

The chipset probably won't matter too much for your purposes.

You can also download programs from cnet.com that can tell you what your machine is. (I think Z-cpu is one of them, but I can't remember).

Hope that helps.

Click Start, the control panel. Inside click performance and maintainance. Click "see basic information about your computer". That opens the system properties. Click the Hardware tab then Device manager. That should give you an idea of what you have on your machine.
Also if you bought your rig through Gateway or Dell or something, they probably have a service tag number on your machine that you can use on their technical support page. I used one through dell and it game me recommendations for upgrades.

There is no need for a hacker. It can be done by simply doing this: Right click on My computer>Hardware>Device Manager. This will list all installed hardware such as the sound and video card.

Hope this helps!

Unscrew the bottom of your laptop and gently pull apart. Locate the mother board and pull one of the microchip looking black attachments and gently unplug from the board. On the bottom will be a labeling of all necessary specs.
