Actually, it doesn't taste bad. I have had an orange flavored one (kinda tasted like orange soda) and a fruit punch one that was good.

Typically, you go into your doctor's office, and they will give you a glucola liquid to drink. Its a really sweet drink, but the best way to describe it is that it tastes like flat pop. Both time I've done it, it was orange flavored. After drinking it, you will wait 1 hour, and then they will draw your blood. If you fail the 1 hour test (meaning your blood sugar level is too high), then your doctor will order another glucose tolerance test, only this one is a 3 hour test. Where you blood will be taken at different intervals over a 3 hour period. With my current pregnancy, my doctor sent the glucola liquid home w/ me. I drank it at home 1 hour before my appointment, and was told to arrive at the doctor's office 5 minutes prior to my appointment, to make sure that my blood was drawn exactly one hour after drinking the liquid. With my first, I did the whole test in the office (I had a different doctor then). I liked it much better this time around. It eliminated the waiting at the doctor's office, which can be quite boring. Hope this info helped. Good luck

It's extremely sweet. My lab offers 3 flavors, cola, orange, and lemon lime. First time I did cola. Tastes like supersweet very flat (no carbonation) coca-cola. Not really bad though. The second time I chose lemon-lime. Tastes like very sweet Sprite with no carbonation (no bubbles). It's about 8 ounces of fluid. And you must drink it within 5 minutes. At my lab, there were about 3 pregnant women so we did a college style "chug-a-lug" and I guzzled it down...ok yeah..i'm goofy.
You must sit there without eating anything else and then after 1 hour the lab tech will get a blood sample from you.
Don't worry about the taste. It's really sweet and really flat but not really bad at all.
Congrats!

It's really sweet. I gave a gal a ride to the doctor and she vomited it up. Instead, they are doing the jelly bean test. Doctor said that he'd like to switch all of his patients to that eventually because too many are sickened by the drink.
Jelly bean test - 18 Brachs jelly beans eaten within 2 minutes. Same 50 g. as the oral glucose, but doesn't upset stomach. ACOG even approved it.

It tastes like thick non-bubbly soda. It's really not that bad as long as you have a sweet tooth. Keep one thing in mind, you won't be eating the morning/or maybe night before the test, take something along to eat after the test, you will be starving after the test.

It varies depending on the clinic. I had a choice of lemon-lime (like Sprite or 7-Up) or cola. The tech suggested I go with lemon-lime, which I did, and it wasn't bad. It just tasted like a really sweet, thick syrup. It was definitely NOT as bad as I was expecting.

The last time I started one, we offered the moms cola, orange, or lemon-lime. They taste like really sweet, flat soda pop. I think most clinics offer, at least, 2 flavors.
It's not too bad to taste but it was hard for me to drink it quickly with my morning sickness when it was my turn.

It wasn't bad. The liquid drink I had was orange. I put it in the fridge and just gulped it down. It was like drinking orange soda. It made me really gassy so be prepared to burp a lot..lol.

Well, it used to be REALLY sweet...I think you could pick between orange and cola flavors..it was like drinking the syrup used in soda w/ no carbonation...that was a LONG time ago...I had one done 3 years ago and it was much better...not GREAT, but better! I think they diluted it down some...it is tolerable...best of luck!
