It seems to me it would have been better of staying part of India on independence in 1947, or staying under British control.

After all it has a failing economy, is riven by corruption, lawlessness, islamic extremism, dictatorship, religious, ethnic and sexual bigotry and discrimination,is culturally and artistically stagnant, and has contributed nothing positive to the world at large.

India is far from perfect, however it does have democracy, the caste system is being challenged, its economy is thriving, and it has inventive scientific, medical and artistic scenes.

It seems the Indian people and their way of life is somewhat superior to me!

NOTE; I did say India is far from perfect, i am aware that huge numbers of Indians are poverty stricken, democracy there isnt up to the standards of the west, nor is its economy...and infanticide and mysogeny are rife. But my question was RELATIVE, ie relative to how far its come in comparison to Pakistan, or indeed Bangladesh.

A very interesting question, that many would not wish to comment on such a controversial subject. You are brave to have raised this, and I will back you that with help a country can gain economically.

Look, the sad reality is both Pakistan and India are at max 2 or 3. I will give you my reasons: Both countries' development revolve around foreign investment, exports 'foreign firms' produce, and industries set up by 'foreign companies' or any other ventures with foreigners. What nobody realizes is that suppose there is annual $20 billion foreign investment into India's economy. Also, assume per year, foreign companies such as IBM, etc add $40 billion dollar to India's exports. But guess who is making the money at the end? Not India, but wherever these companies are headquartered. Indian govt. just receives the tax money and the international firm employees receive half of their Western counterparts. And that is why small countries such as Syria still enjoy a MUCH higher standards of living than Pakistanis or Indians because majority of money is invested in Syria, unlike being taken out. So there, now you decide how much you would give? Finally, if it does come down to rating, I would rate Pakistan higher than India, not because I am a Pakistan, but because: Overall standard of living in Pakistan is better than that of India's. To me it is all about standard of living. All industries and infrastructure mean nothing if the citizens don't have good standard of living.

If you consider India to be superior to Pakistan, then you don't know or have read about the conditions that the Indians live in India. You will also have to see that the majority of the Indians are ignorant uneducated and poor and if you consider that is superior, then you don't really know what superior is. You say that India have a Democratic government, how could you say that. The government of India is corrupted, lawlessness and not a Democracy as such. I think you should study more about India and probably you will not see any different in one or the other.

It is most likely better off being separate from India due to religious differences. There hasn't been too much killing betweent the two countries simply because there's a border keeping the people apart and that helps.

Economically, they are both in about the same boat, though it seems India is poised to take off, but that doesn't mean that life in India will necessarily be better for many people.

Sometimes it seems to me that being poor might be better than having a little more money in a country that is crowded, dirty, crime ridden, etc.... I'm mostly thinking though of people who live out in the farmlands and such. Poverty isn't so bad if you aren't aware of it, according to my Mom and Dad who lived through the depression in the South.

First and foremost partition into two nations was a British concept that lead to the most massive migration of peoples in the 20th century. It used tribal elders in the Pashtun regions of Pakistan to their advantage and Hindu ones on the other side when convenient. When it was time to leave, it rewarded its corrupt facilitators.

That said, India is a land that to me resembles 19th century Russia but worst. The overwhelming number of people are poor and un-educated with a select few of princely figures who exploit them. The added insult is that these poor people are also arrogant and vindictive of their own neighbors over trivialities. The caste system is a shame on civilization as a whole and it makes no difference how much your economy grows if millions of people in your country are not allowed inside a room, not even a poor shop keepers.

Pakistan, due to current stages in fundementalism, is at a handicap because it is battling between secular modernity and religious traditionalism. Similarly to what many in the Muslim world face. That battle will be resolved in decades by interior work and an overall enlightenment by its people, much the same way Europe got out of its war of religion days after 500 years of burning each other at the stake.

Pakistan has its problems that are amplified now by this religious complexity. India on the otherhand is a nation of a billion people, the vast majority left completely outside development. An indian child is more likely to be malnourished than a subsaharan African one. So much for favorites there.
By the way, religion aside, the people of southern Pakistan have alot more in common with northern Indians than northern Indians have with their southern counterparts. The north of India is lighter skinned, has a different culture and language, even different ways of handing down family names than the south. The Dravidian people are in the southern portion of the Deccan land and are actually classified as a different race than the Indo-Aryan of the north. The assertion that Pakistanis are culturally entirely different than Indians is inaccurate and with more observance, one can clearly see that there is a larger gap between the two indian populations than between the Pakistanis and northern indian people.

Place of constant instability for all neighbours so far... Some time ago it was a good theory of passionar jump: at different point of time different countries are went and going through different cycles of life as a large group of people. Some times it is at pick so we have a rise of Rome or Ancient Egypt or people from British isles (it wasn't just British people by the way) went all across the Globe... We may see that kind of activity in Pakistan.. I am not sure if it is a pick or the lowest possible part of the chart as here in Britain all that I can see : they are good with all benefit system where lots of them working.. sorry, i don't want to offend any one

No. I beleive India would be bad because of conflict between cultures and the common Indian religion, Hinduism is very different from many Asian religions such as the three book religions and Buddhism. The Punjab region maybe should be part of Pakistan and so should maybe even Banladesh. Anyway Hindus are very protective of their land, religion, and culture. Pakistan has gone downhill in the past few months due to influence of other coutries and extremist claiming to be Islamic. Pakistan's rule should change and Musharraf is very close to Bush who might help the country. Or maybe help the country how he helped Iraq. Pakistan needs stronger government and need to be more correct. (No government is perfect....) With better police control and controling the right thing.

An interesting point, but I believe it was the only way to avoid even more bloodshed at the time. The muslims in India have done ok in those Indian states where they are in a minority. Where they are in the majority, they are some of the poorest in India. I can't remember where I read that but it was just the other day.

Pakistan is a thriving economy, fact is Pakistan had always had her back turned towards India, the people on the Pakistan were always kind of different, even the looks were different, on the Pakistan side people can trace their ancestrys to Arabs, Persia, Turks, Greeks, Mecedonians & many others, whereas India most are Dravidians, local dark skinend ppl, so therefore the thinking, mentallity is different between the two nations, so its not suprising Pakistan got her Independence, there was to much crime, blood shed with Muslims Hindus, Sikhs & others when it was as India, but it went unreported, infact British also made living hell for the People of both nations, the British put upon their mentallity, way of thinking on these Nations, so therfore Pakistan were smart enought to see this & defeat the British to get their own land.

Do some research dude & then u will know the facts, truths of things, dont be bitter. by the way who said ur ppl were being killed cuz of being not Arabs & not this & that? whos to say thse ppl who r killig u r Muslims? maybe they dont know anything about Islam, maybe ur ppl also attackes Muslims, maybe ur ppl do crimes, cud be all sorts of reasons, as they say only the strong survive, if ur ppl (Assryrians) are strong enough, smart enough then why not put up a fight, & resist this , instead of coming here & crying, moaning about situations, lol, i know few Assrrians who agree that its not simple case of ur ppl being killed by Muslims, its more to do with ur OWN downfall, its ur own fault, if u start trouble, critise then u will get it back, be outclassed. listen to ur own open minded, civilised ppl then make judgment.

50% of Indians live on 50cents a day, some success that. I would be interested in any single invention which came from India

India should stop qualified Indian doctors and other qualified people from coming to "UK" . India needs them more than we do
