If you're wanting hard rock and/or metal from that era, I'd suggest:
Ratt - pretty much everything from Ratt is great 80s rock, but *especially* recommended is anything from Out of The Cellar or Invasion of Your Privacy.
Y&T - Summertime Girls
Billy Idol - White Wedding, Rebel Yell
Van Halen - Panama, Hot for Teacher, Jump
Aerosmith - Dude Looks Like a Lady, Ragdoll
Guns and Roses - Anything off of Appetite for Destruction would be good.
Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers, Knocking at your back door
Def Leppard - Photograph, Foolin', a few other tracks off of Hysteria.
****
If you're wanting 80's rock with more of an "alternative" flavor, you can't go wrong with these:
Robert Plant - Big Log, Tall Cool One
Oingo Boingo - Dead Man's Party, Weird Science, Only a Lad
The Cars - The Heartbeat City album
World Party - Ship of Fools
R.E.M. - You Can't Get There From Here, Driver 8.
Rush - Distant Early Warning and Subdivisions
Til Tuesday - Voices Carry
****
If you want the poppier side of 80's rock, you could go with some of these guys:
Huey Lewis and the News
Genesis/Phil Collins
Bon Jovi
Bruce Springsteen - esp. The Born in the USA album
John Cougar Mellencamp - Jack and Diane, Little Pink Houses, Paper in Fire, Scarecrow, etc.
Happy music hunting!
