Quite a few big ones, to the extent that people we have met and who know us have called us "the disaster magnets".

Before I met my hubby, I had been through two major hurricanes and an earthquake, a few tornadoes and several killer blizzards/ice storms. But it was only after we got together that the fun really started.

First was Cyclone Andos in the Indian Ocean, a Category 5 and a near miss. Next was Cyclone Erica in the South Pacific, a Category 5 and a direct hit. Next was the 2004 tsunami, another direct hit. In all three cases, we were very lucky we lived through them. We all have different coping mechanisms, but I'll tell you how my husband and I coped. We either kept busy or slept. Mostly, I kept busy while he slept. My favorite hurricane hobbies are playing solitaire or making hurricane lanterns out of plastic coke bottles. Sounds boring, but you'd be amazed how tranquilizing these things are when the house is falling down around you.

PS, couldn't believe it when we were in Caracas once for one hour and during that hour a major viaduct collapsed throwing the whole country's infrastructure into chaos. Some friends of ours reckoned it had to be because we were there at the time. I'm being serious!

Yeah, 6 of us, 4 adults and 2 kids were in Virginia on a narrow strip of land between the bay and the ocean. I had been hearing warning about a Hurricane all day. Finally I convinced the other 3 adults that we had to leave the coastal area..we did. Stayed away for 2 nights, then went back to the beach house because the area was given an all clear!
Later that same day this hurricane that was headed to the open water turned around and was headed right for us again.
As the wind and rain increased in intensity I called emergency operations..I was told it "was to dangerous" for anyone to come out and rescue us! We would have to get out on our own.
That was not an option for me it was indeed to dangerous.
The only thing I could think to do was go into the brick and cement part of the garage under the house..a laundry room.
We stayed there the entire night, I listened to news broadcasts all the while.
When we finally came out the next day it looked like someone had dropped a bomb.
Roof's ripped off, tree's uprooted, sides of houses completely torn off.
Needless to say we left the area within 2 hours!

A small earthquake once. All I thought was despite mankind's achievements they all count for sweet F.A in the face of a disaster.

Tornadoe's where a big thing back home., I will never forget the Tornado in Barrie onatrio in the 80's. We were playinjg baseball adn the wind picked up, sky went green adn boy was it scary. A few folk died which was sop tragic, but we ll helped out (well I was still in school then and very young) but we donated our toys tot he children who lost theirs... We were very lucky it didnt knock our hosue down.

A group of canadian and american native witch doctors got pissed at me, for healing the son of one such who'd cursed his own son, who literally stumbled into a men's prayer mtg I was attending. Men prayed over him, but nothing happened; So I gave him a grace us hug, and instantly he was healed. Even the strong smell of liquor on him immediately vanished.

I didn't know his dad was a witch doctor, had cursed him. His dad was so pissed he called a NA gathering of witch doctors.
These witch doctors all gathered in usa, made a circle, and sent me a man made tornado. Evidently when they do this, what they agree on, believe, speak, somehow gets real.

When I saw it coming, clouds rolling in from all four directions, saw it swirl together like a giant space ship, big as a small city, and a funnel form; then I sent children to the basement, and I spoke to it, saying: Return to sender, none for me thanks, I won't have destruction(law), only constuction(grace).

It went away. My youngest son took pictures of it leaving.
The next day I saw where it went, in the city newspaper.
It went to an Indian reserve, and it(law) destroyed all of it.
It was also declared a national disaster, by the cdn gov't.
Not a blade of grass was bent in adjacent farmer's field.

Thank God there was no loss of life by this destruction.
If such ever came again, I would send it to the dead sea.

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus-->Christ with you-->all. Amen.
