Are you sure your mechanic knows what he is doing? Freon is no longer used in any cars. The standard refrigerant used now is R-143a. It might be that you are leaking refrigerant. The best thing would be to go to a car parts store (I live in IL and don't know if these are national franchises, but a store like Murray's, Auto Zone, or O'Railie's). Anyway, get an A/C refill kit. Just ask someone for it. It shouldn't cost more than $35. Anyway its a bit hard to explain, but its very simple and you can do it yourself. Ask someone who works there for help.

If that doesn't help its most likely a little valve that opens and closes. I can't remember the name, but my mom had a similar problem and that had to be replaced. A good mechanic who specializes in A/C repairs will know.

P.S. Guy who answered before me is right and makes a good point. Energy (heat) cannot be destroyed or created only altered. To cool the A/C needs to heat something else. If the temperature outside is not letting the radiator to heat the air than it will not cool the air inside, but do try my method.

If the ambient temperature is over 100F then there is nothing wrong with your A/C system. A/C effiency goes down as the ambient temperature goes up. If you are parked and the vehicle sitting still then it will be worse. Try going on the freeway to see if it helps. If it does then it is normal. The A/C system in a nut shell is a heat exchanger. It does not blow cold air. It merely takes heat out from the existing air and blows it back into the cabin. Hope this helps.

My question is if there were no leaks, then why did they have to add freon? I'm guessing that you are low on freon again and that there is a leak. Take it to another shop and have them look at it. See what they say. good luck.

May be an electrical problem. Does compressor run when it's blowing hot?

Fordman makes a great point.

How long ago did you get it tested? Is it totally random or are their any factors you have noticed that cause it? Weather, temp etc.
