Depo Provera is the name of the shot. It does not stop the menstrual cycle but it will change it to different times, flow rate up or down.

Depo provera is what it is called. I lovingly call it POISON.
I was on it for four years and am so glad I'm off that shot.
Google depo provera lawsuit and check out its reviews on http://www.rateitall.com and check out just how many negative reviews from the majority of women who have had this shot.
It wreaks havoc on your health and reproductive system, I do not recommend this to anyone.
Try Seasonale or Lybrel, both pills, that you end up having four periods a year or no periods a year.
You could bleed for MONTHS at a time on the shot, or not at all. You could get weight gain, loss of libido, horrible mood swings, headaches, bone density loss, etc.

yes, its called depo provera...it does stop your periods in some people... I was on it for a total of 5 years and I DO NOT recommend it!!! terrible side effects an there is a lawsuit against them currently for causing bone loss and ovarian cysts, among other problems like spinal fractures and complete LOSS of sex drive. I've been off of it now since january 2006 and still feeling the effects, my periods(and my sex drive) are slowly returning, so far I'm having 7 day periods with 3 days in between. this sucks. but I know everyone is different, before you make a decision...READ UP ON IT!!!

I don't know about an injection but there is an implant - a device inserted just under the skin that provides birth control and stops you from menstruating, it's called an I>U>D
