I'm going to be registering for an adult beginning tap class and I'm needing some ideas on what brand of shoe I should get. I don't need anything really fancy, but I do want a type of shoe that's going to hold up well.

Thanks!

Most of the time the studio will have shoes for dancers to purchase. Check with the studio. Normally, you'll have the same size dance shoe as street shoe, but always try them on, at least with stockings. They'll be stiff at first but once you "break them in" they'll hold up for a long time. You'll probably have to "scuff" up the ball of the shoes (go outside and walk around on cement). Bloch is a good shoe, and so is Capiezo. It will depend on what your studio wants.

I would say that you should buy a Capezio dance shoe with a tele tone tap. Especially for a beginner, you need a tap that you can hear and makes the right sound. It helps with confidence etc. My first tap class years ago when the Earth was new, I had horrible taps and I thought I was horrible. Turns out I had bad shoes. Don't scrimp on shoes. They are a big, if not the biggest part of tapping. Have fun!!

Wow! They look like a normal shoe! The metal plate on the ball of the shoe looks a bit small so it might be harder for the beats to come out clear - but other than that (you can probably change the plate) they look good! If I was doing performance tap, then I'd go for them. Pity my dance school has regulations! What are your requirements? Good luck ! :)
