A properly fitted bra will provide supprt and coverage, with out spilling out the sides. I would go to a store that has people to help you with sizing and fitting. Nordstrom and Macy's are two I can think of.

Is it a sports bra?

Sounds like the band size is right, but you need the correct cup size.

Some sports bras come only in the number. You should look for ones with the number and the letter.

Shop around for a 36B, 36C sizes and see which fit better for you.

To measure yourself, measure around the chest under the breast. Round up and add four if it is an even number and five if it is an odd number (as you do not see odd number band sizes). This is your band size.

Measure around the breast at the widest part. Round up. Subtract band size from this.

1" is an A, 2" is a B, 3" is a C.

NOTE: Bra sizes are not standardized, which means you could be one size in one bra and another in another bra, using me as an example, I am a 38C in one bra and a 38DD in another bra. So only use that measurement as a guideline.

I do not suggest getting sized at Victoria Secret as I've heard many negative remarks and experienced their incorrect sizing firsthand. Try Nordstroms JCPenneys or Sears instead.

No, it's too small.
A properly fitting bra contains the entire breast [ top, bottom, sides ] in the cup so everything is supported.
Measure yourself around the chest, directly under bust. Add 5 inches. This is your BAND size [ the number part, such as 36. ]
Now measure around the fullest part of your breasts. Subtract the band size from that number. This is your cup size.
[ say, 39 inches - band size of 36 inches = 3 inches, or a 'C' cup.....so size would be 36C.
1" = A
2" = B
3" = C
4" = D
5" = DD
6" = F
All bra sizes are a tiny bit different, just as shoe sizes are. Try on different brands and different styles.

This bra is definitely not fitting you correctly!! Go to Victoria's Secret , or any bra department in a major department store, and a woman will measure you and be able to tell you your exact size. That's their job. If you go to Victoria's Secret, that doesn't mean you have to BUY there. You can shop anywhere for a good bra. Like Sear's or Penney's. Before you buy, ask the lady if it's fitting you perfectly. Have fun and good luck!! :)

The only way to find out for certain is to get fitted. The only problem is, how can you tell a good fitter?

Here's my bra fitting guide: http://www.belladonnaeyes.co.uk/bra_fitting_part_01.htm

If you teach yourself how to fit your own bras, then you won't need to get fitted. Considering how bad most bra fitters are, it might be the best option.

I suggest measuring yourself or getting measured in a store to get a proper fit instead of just guessing.

If you're spilling over the top or sides, then you don't have the right size.

If your breasts come out of the cup, the cup size is too small. I suggest you go to a department store and get sized professionally.

that means that you need a bigger cup size, but that the diameter of the bra (36 inches in your case.) is perfect for you

By deductive reasoning as far as I can tell a 38C but just in case would visit the nearest Victorias Secret for a sizing.
