As a fan of baseball, he's not my favorite guy. I don't like interleague play, I think he's handled the steroids issue badly, and I don't believe anyone was happy one way or the other with the way he behaved during the home run chase.

All that being said, though, I think he does his job very well. He's there to work for the owners, and ultimately to help them succeed - in other words, to make money. He has brought record TV contracts, added the wildcard and interleague play to boost interest and attendance, and MLB has had record revenues. If I was an owner, there would be no reason to replace him as he's doing exactly that for which he was hired.

I won't miss him when he leaves, and given the chance, I'll defile his grave if he ever actually expires.

That's not to say he hasn't done a very good job of selling the game; he has. From the point of view of his employers, the owners, he's been excellent -- they are rolling in cash despite many attempts to spend it all.

From my pov, a fan, no, he hasn't done all that much well. The 1994-95 strike is his greatest albatross -- never forgive him that one -- and the utter mishandling of the PED era is a story that may never be written completely but in which he has a starring role. And there's other anvils to drop on his head, but those are the two big ones.

I don't often refer to him as "Seligula" just 'cuz it's cute. He's had plenty of screwups to counterbalance his (frankly amazing) successes, and the last two CBAs were, surprisingly, settled without interrupting the season. I'll give him measured credit where he has earned it, and also note that he basically never aims small -- wins big or loses big, but never small. He's got the charisma of two-day old roadkill (and wears one on his head) -- his impersonal likeability is near-zero, so he doesn't earn any grace on that front.

But it's down to this: he makes the game money. LOTSA money. The owners love that; nothing else makes any real difference. When one has a financial track record like that, it takes a monumental misstep* to be ousted.

* There's a phrase for this, but in deference to familial sensibilities I won't include it. The language is tame but the concept is harsh.

A total jackass who couldn't lead a cub scout troop. Turned a blind eye to the steroids problem for the sake of filling the seats.
If Bonds is prosecuted, so should McGwire, Sosa, Giambi, Canseco, Palmiero, and any others who used performance enhancing drugs. Otherwise, leave the past in the past.

I have never cared for the man. I want to puke every time I see him. I can't wait till he retires in 2009 which at this point seems forever. I have never liked his attitudes or his ways. Only good thing he brought was interleague play and the wild card, which adds a lot to baseball, otherwise he sucks!

I've heard he's a nice guy and really loves baseball. The problem his that he doesn't have any demonstrated leadership ablity.

The commissioner should be pointly chosen and paid by the owners and players union.

Had a bud on my ceiling once. I liked it. Had some buds fall on the floor. Liked them too.

I'm not happy with how baseball has deteriorated under his watch nor how he got his job in the first place. I don't blame him entirely, he has had plenty of help ruining the image of MLB.

i dont think that he should have just let giambi go without some kind of punishment. im not saying he should be suspened for the whole season or anything like that but suspened him or do something for like 10-15 games or something like that.

He is and has always been a jerk. I don't understand why the other owners did not find someone from outside of baseball, except they know he is one of them so he is not going to do anything they don't want him to do.
