I'll be 13 in a few days. I've always loved dancing and just after I turned 12 I decided I wanted to start taking classes, but my mother and my sisters said I was too old and according to them all dancers start when they're just little kids. Is this true and am I really too old to start dancing?

Not at all. I know a guy who went to college as a business major and had never taken a dance class in his life. He took one modern class (at the age of 19 I might add) and loved it and ended up becoming a dance major. Now he is the BEST dancer I know!! And look at Sabra on "So You Think You Can Dance," she started dancing when she was 16 and she just won the show at the age of 19. Age is nothing. Hard work is everything. Good luck.

No your sister is wrong. Anybody can be good at anything but it's really best when you start dancing at an early age but if you really wanna learn, why would you think what others think? Be positive. Even people more than your age starts to dance or do some sort of things coz they enjoy it. Just try but if you think you can't stand it. Quit. But never the less, keep going in to it coz maybe someday, You will be known as a professional dancer. :) gud luck.

No way in heck, especially if you just want to dance for the fun of it. Many dance and recreation/leisure programs offer classes for beginning teens/adults, so you should be able to find a class that works well for you. I didn't start taking dance classes until I was well into my 20s (ballet and hip hop) and I loved it. Yes, I know that I'm not as flexible compared to those who danced a lot when they were younger. However, I focused on just having fun and got some great exercise as well. I'm going to be registering for a beginning adult tap dancing class for the first time and really looking forward to it.

So, sign up for a class and have some fun with it. :)

NEVER EVER THINK THAT U ARE TOO OLD tO DO SOMETHING THAT U WANNA DO!!!! i have been dancing since i was 3, but i started really doing jazz and good technique when i was 10 or 11. i am REALLY good now and i have only been dancing like that for 2 years, so I have improved so much. i can do things i could have never dreamed of doing now. i first started out with younger kids but then i learned really fast and was so much better than all those kids, so i dance with people my age and older! HAVE FUN!

Hey there! You may be too old to try and join the Russian Ballet, but you should always take the initiative to try things you're interested in. You'll find that dancing is not only fun, and good exercise, it is a kind of meditation in a way. My aunt started dancing when she was 30 and still is to this day at 68. I think it's part of what keeps her mind sharp and her body active.

I am 24 and I started learning ballroom right before my 23 birthday. I am doing well with it and moving up to pre-bronze (Still a low level but I am getting there) and placing well (top 3). But honestly, I dance because I love it. If it makes you happy and you find a way to express yourself then go for it! Whether it be ballroom, ballet, jazz, tap, etc. it doesn't matter.

No! You're never to old to start dancing! I've heard of people who are in their 40s starting to dance. You're fine!
