it is in my backyard, every time i walk outside i smell a rotten egg smell. there are cracks that are in the septic tank, which the raw sewage is leaking, shall i say. Living in/near a small town has advantages and disadvantages, disadvantage #1) hardware stores are closing and we live 11miles out of town therefore it's not as simple. advantage #1) no line.

Bad news, rid-x or any similar products are strictly to replenish the necessary bacteria to eat the solid waste that settles in the bottom of the septic tank. This takes time. It's not something you sound like you have.

You can find your tank and uncover the lid by removing the dirt/soil. You should carefully remove the lid since alot of them are brittle concrete and can break easily (you don't want the pieces falling back into the tank).
See if the tank is filled with roots. This is what happened to mine.
If roots aren't what's blocking the pipe leading from the house to the tank, you can call a septic tank pumping company. They will usually come out after hours and pump the tank empty. This will give you back the use of your sewage system but not fix the problem. You need to have someone come out and determine the cause of the blockage.

If roots are visible, you might be able to restore the flow by removing the roots. It's a tough job and not for the faint hearted.

My inlet and outlet pipes were blocked by a root system that had been growing for a long time. The roots were about a foot thick and very stubborn to remove. After 2 nasty days of getting them out and paying $60 to pump the tank, we had our flow back. I poured root killer around the outside and inside of the tank to prevent it from happening again.

Good luck to you.

Sewer tank - also called septic system - is a large tank buried in the ground to hold sewerage and waste water. These days you can get systems that 'process' the tank contents so you can pump out and use the water on your gardens etc. Used in areas where there is no mains sewerage infrastructure - like rural areas. A sewer system - is when all waste goes from the house/building toilet/bath/all water outlets into a mains sewer system. This then connects to a major sewerage pipe which carries everything - solid and liquid - to large treatment plants. As you find in towns, cities etc.

Sounds like a septic tank...go to a hardware store and look for an enzyme-based product made for septic tanks and follow the instructions. Keep in mind that septic systems need period service from the guy with the 'honeywagon.'

Use as little water as possible. Do you have laterals or just a septic tank?

Hopefully some water will start draining from the tank out into the lateral field.

Sorry, but there's not much else you can do yourself.

If you mean a Septic tank use Rid-Ex, its for septic tanks, your tank might need to be drained by the Honey wagon guy, its a truck that has a tank and they drain the tank by use of suction.

You don't need a plumber, you need someone to pump your tank. You'll have to dig the cover open or pay the extra price for the digging.
