Old enough to drive, responsible enough to know when to drive or stay put and must have the ability to defend themselves when a stranger tries to snatch them from the neglectful parent who just left their kid in the car.

When there old enough to roll down the windows, get a drink of water and yell ma when you coming back.

The proposed Virginia law prohibits leaving children who are eight years old or younger unsupervised in motor vehicles by persons who are at least 14 years old. So a nine year old can be left or an 8 and 14 year old can be left.

I was left in the car with my 5 brothers and we road in the back of pickups without seat belts and we use to go hunting and trapping alone at 8 and 9 years old. America's full of a bunch of do gooder wusses. That's why were in the crap were in in Iraq.

Leaving a child of any age in a car unattended is stupidity at it's best. It only takes a second for someone to steal your car with your child in it.
I don't know what the legal age is,guess it would depend on your local laws.

It's a matter of local law. You would need to research it in your jurisdiction.

This is in addition to neglect/abuse laws. Certainly, no child (or pet) should be left in a car when it is hot outside because cars heat up extremely quickly and can cause permanent injury or death. Both of which would "get you in trouble with the cops."

leaving any child unattended is punishable.. due to the number of kidnappings and abductions.. they might be less willing to press charges if the child it 15-16 but alot of places could still..

If you have to keep looking for places to stash your kids because you don't want to be hassled by taking them with you everywhere you go,(...that's called being responsible),...then don't have kids!!!
