Samsung, LG and LiteOn DVD drives usually come with a CD of Cyberlink's Power DVD. Install Power DVD.

If you are looking for a media player to play DVD movies, then you may want to try free AVS player.
Download: http://www.avsmedia.com/DVDPlayer/index.aspx
If you are looking at playing other file formats such as AVI (example: shrek3_2007.avi), you could use Windows Media Player, but would have to install codec pack.
Download: http://www.free-codecs.com/Codec_Pack_All_in_1_download.htm
When you download and install code pack, Windows Media Player will play most of the known file formats.

Try VLC free not a trial and plays almost anything.
