I pick: Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, North Carolina, and select areas of Washington st., Wyoming, Tennessee, Mississippi, and South Carolina.

Granted, I've met great and bad people from so many places, but the above states are the ones I've had the best experiences with.

I live in Kentucky. I really wish I could add ANY place in this state to the list, but some days I just hate it here. I'm glad we dropped the license plate slogan "It's That Friendly" b/c it was (and is) a total joke!

Willis C: Kentucky people will go to their graves swearing that they live in the greatest, friendliest state. These are the same people that have never diversified their surroundings by even visiting other states! It's sad.

Texas is a state for friendly people. So is Tennessee. Also, Wyoming and Colorado. Just my personal experience. And you are right, there are a few bad seeds out there, but I think as a general rule, there are still more good than bad.

I get turned off by the signs on Texas highways which say "Don't mess with Texas" This is seriously insulting to travelers.
And you can have Tennessee--Well, Memphis anyway.
I moved there from upstate New York a few years back.
I had no friends there, for months, until I had a chance to intervene in a medical emergency. Then suddenly everybody wanted to be my friend.
Now I am back home again in Indiana and love it.

Missouri is friendlier than KY but they're still uptight to interracial couples. Ohio is by far the most welcoming place I've been to with the columbus area people being the nicest. Anywhere near the coal area in southeast ohio they act more rednecky. So I'd suggest that you at least move up the road to cincinati. Its not perfect but its a change from Kentucky.

i have found the people of arkansas to be friendly and more than willing to help a person in need. i was stuck there for 5 weeks due to health problems a few years ago, i lived in california at the time. I couldn't believe how many people that had never any met me stepped forward. i ended up with more help than i could have ever hoped for. i now have some wonderful friendships with people there that i treasure.
