It is just an old saying.

The tale behind the saying is, in earlier times, when the people used to go to bed, they used to remove the valuable ornaments that they were wearing all the day. And, as u know, in the earlier times, there wasnt any electricity to search for,if something, some valueable ornament falls down. And, if god forbids, they might loose it. So, this saying became popular over the time that, if u sweep during the night times, ur valueable items(if they have fallen down accidentally) might get lost.

Hope this answers ur queation. Have fun. And yeah, do sweep, but put the lights on ;)

Darn never heard that before. Maybe that's why I so dirt poor? Thinks for the info. No more sweeping for me, just use leaf blower from now on.
