You don't know much about history. Remember Nixon and Watergate. Nixon taped his conversations. Some 27 minutes was mysteriously erased. Mrs. Clinton's Rose Law office billing records were missing then suddenly disappeared. The Iran Contra affair. There have been lots of irregularities in the past. In your case, you have made some up.

I suspect that the level of government deceit has been similar over all of history. We have had some exceptions. But I think that honest politicians are more the exception than the rule.

I think that what has changed is the ability to communicate the falsehoods. I think that the internet has been instrumental in this ability.

Lies from those in office are not new and not really news. Prevarications and deception are the mainstays of politics, not just todays politics but all politics. It is the nature of public power to be accompanied by lies and accusations of lies. Any government that does not have people claiming it is dishonest is a totalitarian regime where dissent is crushed by force. Part of the current problem causing the huge volume of reporting about political deception is the fact that the current administrationis conservative while 97%+ of the media reporters describe themselves as liberals. This leads to a situation where the media seek out and even create stories to denigrate and harm the current administration.
The media long ago stopped being impartial and for decades now has used the bully pulpit of the TV and other modern outlets to push the liberal agenda of those in front of the camera. If you are in office and your views do not match those of the media you too will be their target for abuse.

I suspect I'm a lot older than you (I can remember the Eisenhower administration), and no, I don't remember such a time. I also was bothered more by the disinformation in the Clinton administration than Bush's, which has been largely easy to see through.

I believe they has always been lien, that's what they do best. I think in the last 10 years greed has overcome all of them. Because of more TV and quicker action of the media we hear it quicker. The politicians seem to be getting dumber.

Say what you will about the failures of the Carter administration, at least he was an honest man. Only president I can think of in my lifetime I can say that about, but hey, I'm only 40.
