That depends on the circumstances. I've saved over 1000 lives (I was the person talking people down off of bridges and high buildings when they wanted to 'jump') ... and several of those saves have been 'injuries' where they could have 'bled out' if I hadn't stepped in and put pressure on the wound and sent someone to call 911. I suppose the most important thing is that you don't want to 'see that person die' ... although most would say 'caring' is more important. I don't think so ... I think that if you really don't want to see a person or an animal die in front of you, that it's actually easier to call 911 or the animal control than to just 'walk away.' I may be weird, but I did 'save' over 1000 lives in my lifetime!

that depends what they're dying of....
and by the way... CPR is not designed to restart the heart!! you use it to keep the blood flowing until someone can get there with a defribrillator or until EMS arrives. so the CPR process HELPS save the life, but it cant actually save the person without a defribillator.

First of all, Know First Aid..
Take classes in CPR and Rescue breathing
Learn to Swim well
That should about do it.

If they are not breathing the do CPR and even on animals that are your pets
