is it too early to plant tulip bulbs right now? (to bloom next spring)?

i live in northern utah, so it starts to get cold about mid-october. sorry, i should've supplied that info!

Plant bulbs before the ground freezes. September/October will work well for you.

It is WAY too early to plant tulips. Depending on where you live, tulips should be planted in October or November (October in Zone 5 and lower & early November in Zone 6 & 7) In Zone * & above, you're need to pre-chill your tulips bulbs because the winters in the south don't get cold enough for tulips to bloom well.

In the south you put your tulip bulbs into the refrigerator (making sure there are no apples in there with them as apples will make the bulbs rot) in October & leave them there 12-14 weeks. Then you plant them, usually right after Christmas or in ther beginning of January.

Normally tullip bulbs are planted in October/ beginning of November. Plant them too early and they will not survive in a colder winter. Not sure how the climate is with you. But this is the common practice in the Netherlands (yes, from the wooden shoes and the ..... tullips!)
If the winter in your area can be cold, make sure to cover the bulbs with straw or something like that.

Yes, it's way to early. Depending on your area, you can plant them in early fall. I live in So. California, where we don't have much of a winter and I find planting bulbs in the fall for spring blooms works well. If I wait until late winter or early spring it just doesn't stay cold long enough for cool season bulbs to bloom.

Yes, it is still far to warm for the bulbs. I would waite until October for our area zone 4. You need to look up you zone.
