Oh it's so simple.
1.) A nurse will ask you for a urine sample, ask when your last period was, take your blood pressure
2.) They'll take you back into a exam room, tell you to undress your lower half, and unhook your bra for a breast exam
3.) A doctor will come in and ask about your periods, any uusual discharge, if you have any questions
4.) They'll do a breast exam, simply feeling around for lumps
5.) They'll ask you to sit back, put your feet in the stirrups and relax
6.) They'll shine a light down in your vaginal area to do an exam by simply looking
7.) Then they'll insert a duck bill looking instrument called a speculum, and crank it open to hold your vagina open (this may be a bit uncomfortable, but not painful)
8.) They'll insert 1-2 gloved fingers and feel around your ovaries and stuff
9.) They'll take a long q-tip and swab your cervix for cells to test for cervical cancers and stuff
10.) Then you'll be finished, the doctor will clean up, leave, you can get dressed
It seems long but the whole exam lasts like 3 minutes. You may be a bit uncomfortable but it won't hurt. I just had my first exam after going to the gyno for 5 years, and I never even knew she was doing anything until I saw her throw the speculum away. Just stay calm and relaxed and you'll do just fine.
Hope this helps. :-)

Well, it can depend on why you are being taken to the gynecologist. If it's for an annual exam which also includes checking the breasts here's what happens:
The Medical Assistant will weigh you and take your blood pressure, then ask about your period as to when the last period was. After that they will ask about any other things you might be noticing about how you feel. Then after that they will take you in to a room to put a robe for the top area with the opening to the front (this is for doing an exam of the breasts), and a drape for the bottom.
Then after a bit of waiting the doctor will knock on the door to find out if it's safe to come in to the room. Once safe they will come in and talk to you for a bit and then start examining your breasts.
They will ask you to lift one arm above your head so that they can feel the one breast and then do the same to the other side. After that is done they will feel your abdomen to make sure they don't feel anything out of the ordinary such as with the liver which could get bigger in size which is not normal.
Then they will move to the end of the table to ask you to put your feet in special holders called stirrups. After that is done they will insert a special instrument called a speculum that looks a lot like the bill of a duck. They will then shine a light inside so that they can look around and see if any bit of bleeding is going on or look for other out of the ordinary things. If they notice anything different with your discharge from your vagina they will take some of it to be sent off to a lab for checking to see if infection is causing the changes or not.
As soon as that is done they will then take a special brush to take cells from your cervix to have them checked. This test (if they do it at this time on you-some may not until much older like around 18 or 21 depending on the situation) is called a pap smear and it screens for cervical cancer.
The results will come back in about a week or two.
For a problem like not having a period they may do the exam to check the other organs like the uterus and ovaries and also order some bloodwork, and then at a later date do an ultrasound.
Because this is your first time I would recommend seeing a female physician instead. I think you would feel more comfortable talking to a female physician.
You can also ask to speak to the doctor in plain clothes before any exam is done and this I would highly recommend because of how nervous you are. I think this will help you to relax more.
If you have other questions please feel free to e-mail or IM me off site any time.

I'm not familiar with a medication that does this (except birth control pills), but.... if you're going for a routine physical from the gyno, this is pretty much what to expect (may not be a complete list of things the doc will do bc every doc is different):
-He'll get your weight and blood pressure.
-Possibly get a urine sample to check protein levels.
-Possibly check for diabetes (which is just a quick finger prick with a needle. They put the drop of blood in a Glucose monitor and check the level).
-He'll do a breast exam to check for lumps.
-He'll do an internal vaginal exam. This is where the Pap Smear comes in. All they do is insert what some women refer to as the "Silver Stallion" LOL, which is a stainless steel spreader (don't worry, doesn't spread a lot) into your vaginal canal to separate your canal enough to fit the scraper and a finger or two into the canal to collect a sample. They scrape some skin cells from the inside of your vaginal canal and cervix (sometimes painful, but not excruciating), and they'll send the cells off to a lab where they'll test for abnormalities and cancer.
Then, that's pretty much it................. it's not too bad. The worst part is having your legs spread wide open and a doctor down there prodding around! But, you'll get over that soon. Remember, they are doctors, and they've seen it all!
:-) Good luck!!!! I'm proud of you for doing this!
