For men, socks should match the color of your trousers.

You should match match the color of your socks with your pants because socks are part of an outfit and it doesn't really matter what color socks you wear with your shoes because any pair will go.

While some people believe in only white or black socks, and a few think 'brown' is a 'bright color,' my husband and I made a 'pact' with each other to NEVER WEAR DULL SOCKS AGAIN. He has some with stripes, some with argyle, and some 'plain' bright colors like red, blue, and gold. I have 'pictures' on many of mine ... especially turtles and Eeyore since I collect both of them. We wear the 'socks that sort of match our tops.' If you want, you should match your socks to your pants, though, not your shoes ... and generally that is to the 'darkest color' if you have on a 'plaid' or print pants.

I think it depends.

Sometimes, I like to match the pants; the shoes are complementary.

Sometimes I like to match the shoes.

Sometime I pick a sock that stands out because of a color or a print that is meant to attract attention.

But......

Does the carpet match the drapes?

No you don't, if you're wearing pants, you won't even see your socks. Your shoes should match either your pants or your shirt. Your accessories like belts need to match the shoes.

Does it really matter? If you wear pants, nobody's going to see your socks. I think shoes are more useful. Besides, white socks are fine, unless you have different color socks, that's cool. I just don't think it's necessary.

In general, white socks are best (with jeans and tennis shoes). You should NEVER wear black socks with white shoes or white socks with black shoes. If you're not going with white socks, then you should definitely choose socks that match your shoes since they blend in more with shoes than they do pants. :c)

You can do either and both, depending on the outfit and the shoe. There is a line between looking coordinated and clownish. If you have on a yellow shrug over a tank and white capris, go ahead and wear a yellow sock with white tenny, or vice verse. If you have on a brown slack and brown shoe, wear brown socks, brown slack black shoe could take brown or black sock. Please don't wear a black slack with a brown shoe.

It depends on what kind of pants and shoes you're wearing. If your socks are visible in your shoes and your shoes are visible, then yes. If your socks aren't visible, don't bother matching, because nobody can see them.

Whatever looks best. Black socks with black shoes, or tan socks with khaki pants. Just depends on the outfit.
