I have answered this question so many times, I decided to dedicate a web site to answer this question. Here it is:

http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, and a short review of each book.

I hope this helps.

If you like fantasy, Tamora Pierce writes an excellent series of books about teens attending a wizarding school. It's called Circle of Magic. The target age range is slightly older than the HP books, and the issues are more complex, such as how the teens can gain control over their magic along with their burgeoning independence. The books also contain tighter character development because they focus on four teenagers and have a smaller cast. It's rich in detail. I highly reccomend it.

In addition, Charlaine Harris writes an interesting series about vampires. Her writing is very humorous, and it's a light read without being complete fluff. This is another good pick for a fantasy lover.

If you want to stay with children's books/mystery, Eragon and Eldest are very good books, written by Christopher Paolini.
